Description
Handsome lead crystal tankard with stag etched on the front recalling the engravings of Robert Hills (1769–1844). A painter and etcher, Hills primarily depicted rural scenes with many of his renderings held at the British Museum. Red deer migrated to Britain from Europe 11,000 years ago, making them one of two of the country’s truly indigenous species. The stag motif has become a well-recognised symbol in rustic décor as stags symbolise strength, grace and nobility.
