‘The flag which braved the battle and the breeze, No longer owns her’, adapted by Turner from Thomas Campbell’s (1777-1844) poem, ‘Ye Mariners of England’
An atmospheric jigsaw puzzle reproducing Joseph Mallord Turner's (1775-1851) poignant masterpiece painting, ‘The Fighting Temeraire', 1839: the celebrated gunship which had fought valiantly in Lord Nelson's fleet at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Turner depicts the last journey of the decommissioned vessel, as it is towed up the Thames to be broken up in a Rotherhithe-shipyard. With a blazing sunset and a steam ship in the vanguard, the painting symbolises the end of an era, with the sun setting on the days of sail.
