La Belle Jardiniére Jigsaw

An exquisite jigsaw puzzle which reproduces ‘The Months’, a calendar for 1896 commissioned by Parisian department store La Belle Jardiniére (meaning ‘The Beautiful Gardener’), created by pioneering Art Nouveau artist Eugène Grasset (1844-1917). Originally produced as 12 calendar pages, the jigsaw puzzle presents the seasonal vignettes of beautiful ladies engaged in gardening from January to December. From shovelling snow beside frozen holly in ‘Janvier’, and picking roses in ‘Juin’; to raking leaves in ‘Octobre’, and gathering mistletoe in ‘Décembre’: each month captures elegant flowers and the joys of the garden in absorbing detail. With intricate flower-filled frames, the images also include month-name captions in a variety of languages, and a note of the month’s Zodiac star sign. Made from recycled materials, the blue puzzle board features a matt, linen-finish surface and random-shaped pieces for a unique shape and snug fit.
