Description
A painterly jigsaw puzzle reproducing ‘Floral Compass’ by contemporary, California-based botanical and biological artist Erin E. Hunter, whose work focuses on pollinators. Featuring hummingbirds, nectar-rich California wildflowers and circled by a garland of manzanita blooms, the colourful circular design invites collaboration. Famed for his fascination with hummingbirds, the precise ornithological style of the painting recalls studies by John Gould (1804-81). Printed on a matte art-paper the puzzle board is made from recycled materials and designed for pieces to fit snugly. An approachable size, the jigsaw has 500 pieces and includes a useful image guide to aid construction.

The lowdown: this is a challenging puzzle. Beautiful, would make a great gift for lovers of complicated puzzles. Every circular puzzle works in concentric circles radiating out from the centre. This was the case with this one. However, the pieces with the exception of the outer border, are hexagonal. So, the puzzler has to adjust their brain to: circles, hexagons, and an outer border that is all pink. I've started from the centre and worked out. I've only about two and a half circles left to do, but all of the green and pink border pieces are very similar. Also, many of the red flowers are quite similar! Once I got into the way of doing this puzzle, I enjoyed it and completed most of it over two evenings. I'd advise not giving this to an occasional puzzler, it's not what I'd call entry-level.
The quality is superb, as I would expect from a Pomegranate puzzle.
