Smart notecards, produced in association with the Museum, reproducing a refined mix of woodblock prints by nine Japanese masters. Showcasing nature, landscapes, fashion, theatre, and historical myths and legends, the cards reflect the enduring appeal of these themes in Japanese ukiyo-e art. Includes details from 'Peonies and Canary', c.1834 by Hokusai (1760-1849); 'The Sea off Satta in Suruga Province', 1858, by Hiroshige (1797-1858); graceful courtesans by Utamaro (c.1753-1806); a sleeping cat, c.1885-89, by Kyosai (1831-89); and dramatic kabuki actors by Kunimasa and Sharuku. Ideal for short notes and ‘thank you’s, the cards are printed with a tactile, matte finish on a lightweight board. Each card showcases a detail from the original image, with the full reproduction printed on the back. Packaged in a charming box with sunny yellow envelopes, they make a delightful keepsake.
