PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
Delectable die-cut cards reproducing elegant studies of flowering pomegranates, lemons and lemon blossom. Now in the collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, little is known about the unattributed watercolour and pencil studies, thought to have been created c.1770s-1830s. Lemons are thought to have been introduced to Europe in the 11th century while the first pomegranate cultivated in England is said to have been introduced by John Tradescant the Elder (c.1570s-1638). Exotic rarities, pomegranates symbolise fertility, and lemons are associated with health and abundance: both a mark of prestige when gracing a dining table or gift basket. With clever die-cutting tracing two edges of the designs, the cards make an everlasting keepsake.

Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
