Elegant cards reproducing 'Flowers and Grasses of the Four Seasons', c.1825-58; designs from a complementary pair of hanging scroll silk paintings by Suzuki Kiitsu (1796-1858). The artist represents Spring and Summer with asters, orchids, violets, thistles and lilies; and Autumn and Winter with hibiscus, bellflowers, chrysanthemums and narcissi. A master of the Rinpa school style, Kiitsu’s work reflects abstracted nature on a gold ground, echoed with gold foil details to accent the leaves and frames of the cards.
