Description
A dynamic heron garden sculpture crafted from bronze-tone powder-coated steel, the heron is a prominent symbol in Japanese culture, often representing grace, longevity and resilience. The heron was a frequent subject of ukiyo-e artists, especially during the Meiji period. Koson Ohara (1877-1945), a renowned Japanese printmaker, was famous for his depictions of birds, including herons, in his delicate and lifelike woodblock prints. His work is part of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement, which revived traditional Japanese printmaking in the early 20th century. This garden sculpture continues the tradition of Japanese bird imagery in art, honouring nature’s elegance.
