We were escorted by a number of gentleman-like dogs', caption from 'An Old Fashioned Christmas Day' by Washington Irving, c.1910
An endearing collection of Christmas cards celebrating the art of popular British illustrator Cecil Aldin (1870-1935). Aldin is renowned for his characterful portraits, sketches and paintings of dogs and was often inspired by two of his favourite dogs: Cracker the bull terrier and Micky the wolfhound. Reproducing four illustrations, including a plate from 'An Old Fashioned Christmas Day', c.1910 from the collection of the British Library; a puppy meeting a turkey in ‘Puppy Tails’, 1912; 'One for Fido!' from 'The Sketch’s’ Christmas Number, 1899; and a puppy and robins from 'The Black Puppy Book', 1909.

Good quality Christmas cards, from an American artist, featuring 2 different cards all featuring dogs. The wrapper was biodegrable too, so that was a good touch.
