Description
An informative heat change-ceramic mug to discover the lunar cycle with every sip of a hot drink. The generously-sized mug transforms from a black and white star-filled sky, to display a wraparound-design showing the eight phases of the moon: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and Waning Crescent. Each lunar diagram shows the name, the moon phase and gives a percentage of illumination at each stage. When cool, the mug reverts to a starry sky. The lunar cycle – which averages 29.5 days – was the basis for the earliest calendars. A Mesolithic monument discovered at Warren Field in Aberdeenshire is thought to be the earliest lunisolar calendar and has been dated to c.8000 BC; the monument featured pits which correlate with the moon’s phases. Get to grips with this ancient observation and ponder the phases with every tea and coffee in this chunky, tactile mug.
