Statement Murano glass necklace made in a traditional manner on the island of Murano, Venice. Murano’s reputation as a centre for glassmaking was born in the 13th century when the Venetian Republic, fearing fire and destruction to the city’s mostly wood buildings, ordered glassmakers to move to the island. Vibrant red Murano glass bead necklace with gold leaf inclusions combined with crystal beads and small gold-coloured spacers and fittings. This necklace is made with a technique termed Avventurina, which was developed in the 17th century.
