Description
Build your own c.40cm wingspan metal model spitfire with a fun 286-piece kit that recalls the original ‘Mechanics Made Easy’ system patented by Frank Hornby in 1901. R.J. Mitchell’s (1895-1937) iconic design for the Spitfire utilised an innovative all-metal construction; a departure from similar era fighters, such as the Hawker Hurricane, which was built using wood and fabric construction techniques. The Spitfire’s all-metal design also featured flush rivets and its characteristically elegant, elliptical wing. Supplied with a small screwdriver and spanner you will enjoy building the model inspired by the iconic fighter as a memento of the aircraft which protected British skies in the Battle of Britain and beyond.

This has been purchased as a gift for Christmas for a friend whose grandfather was a Spitfire pilot.
