Description
Striking printed glass-covered box based on a late 16th-early 17th century pietra dura table top from Rome, now held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Translating as 'hard rocks' the art of inlaying stones such as marble into decorative panels dates to Ancient Rome and the Renaissance saw the revival of the technique. MDF inner with soft velveteen lining, with hinges and ribbon to hold box open. Featuring three roomy inner compartments and a ring holder.
