Description
Vibrant and rich, the design decorating this woven cotton and wool tapestry cushion is based on a detail from ‘Bauerngarten’ also known as ‘Flower Garden’, 1905-1907, painted by Austrian artist and member of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). The botanical work was first exhibited in Vienna in 1908 and painted during the same period as his most celebrated portraits. Klimt had visited an exhibition of Van Gogh paintings at the Galerie Miethke in Vienna, an element that inspired his own landscape painting and the vivid colours reproduced on this cushion.
