Roses Cotton Corduroy Jacket

Cotton corduroy jacket printed with an all-over rose pattern. This design recalls the 19th-century chintzes that remained popular until the end of the century. Originating in the 16th century in present day Hyderabad, India, chintz was a woodblock painted textile that often featured designs of flowers. Chintz was imported into Europe in the 17th century, but were banned by most major textile-producing countries in the 18th century as European manufacturers were unable to make or replicate it. European printers then sought to replicate the vivid colours and elaborate designs so that, by the 19th century floral textiles such as these were termed chintz. Relaxed fit jacket with and edge-to-edge style, without fastenings, bringing a period print up to date.
