The Royal National Lifeboat Institution
Celebrating 200 years of RNLI courage, a compassionate and insightful book which goes behind the scenes to explore the history and celebrate the hard-work of volunteers which have made The Royal National Lifeboat Institution Britain’s best-loved and highly-valued, maritime emergency service. Founded in 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck, the charity soon gained royal backing and has become a bulwark against the dangers of the sea and treacherous coastline for two centuries. Illustrated throughout with inspiring photographs, informative chapters chart the origins and development of the charity; profiles of lifeboats and life-saving equipment; highlighting the variety of volunteers - from museum curators to lifeboat managers; plus going behind the scenes with insights into training; international lifesaving initiatives; and tales of selfless courage. Includes the RNLI Memorial List and a map of RNLI Lifeboat stations. Published to mark the 200 years anniversary of the Institution, a royalty from the sale of this book will be paid by the publisher in support of the RNLI.
