Description
Imperial War Museums
A photographic celebration of the special relationship enjoyed by British royalty and the Armed Forces. As well as undertaking wide-ranging military service, charitable and ceremonial roles, members of The Royal Family have played a prominent role in times of peace and war. Drawing upon the Museums’ superlative photographic archive, 54 fascinating images spans a century of royal engagement. Includes King George V pictured with cheering Canadian troops in Belgium in 1916; Queen Mary pictured with her daughter Princess Mary in her nursing uniform from her voluntary service at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1918; the then Princess Elizabeth getting under the bonnet of vehicles in The Auxiliary Territorial Service (A.T.S.) in 1945; King George VI meeting Field Marshal Montgomery's dog in 1944; and the, as he was then, Duke of Cambridge assisting with a display at the Imperial War Museum in 2014. Each photograph, mixing colour and black-and-white imagery, is accompanied by an informative caption.
