The British Library
An enthralling and evocative collection of Scottish-themed mysteries, republished from classic tales in the collection of and carefully curated by the Library. 17 short stories, in English; originally published c.1880s-c.1970s, the mysteries showcase the work of Scottish authors or atmospheric Scottish locations. Includes Augustus Muir’s (1892-1982) creepy tale ‘The Body of Sir Henry’ from 1929, set in the Scottish Borders; John Ferguson’s (1871-1952) story ‘The White Line’, starring Scottish criminologist Francis McNab; and the rare short story ‘Madame Ville d’Aubier’, out of print since the 1930s, by Josephine Tey, pen name of Elizabeth MacKintosh (1896-1952). Plus ‘The Edinburgh Mystery’ from 1902 by Baroness Orczy (1865-1947); and ‘The Field Bazaar’ by Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), which was published in a fundraising edition of an Edinburgh University student publication in 1896. Thrilling, sinister and filled with suspense: a mysterious collection to delight lovers of Scotland and Scottish literary heritage.
